Evolving into a Better Version of Ourself
" ... I was fighting myself. You know, trying to be some empty version of what I was before. And, I think I need to try and find a way to be who I am now." NCIS
To Think About
We all have circumstances in life that impact us tremendously and often change us in some way. Sometimes these circumstances are really positive and wonderful and we welcome the change. However, other times these circumstances are challenging and traumatic. They be a physical loss or illness, loss of a relationship or job or any number of other difficult situations. And sometimes these life changing circumstances are the result of an injustice, which is a very difficult reality to accept.
When the really hard stuff hits us, we have a choice; we can be angry, bitter, resentful and refuse to accept it. The result is, much like the NCIS character who stated the above quote, we fight to maintain our old status quo and miss the opportunity to grow and be a better version of ourself. If we are open to accept our situation or circumstance no matter how awful at the time, we can improve our perspective and maybe even find a little more peace. Staying out of bitterness and resentments leads to peace.
Maintaining bitterness is a choice and resentments come from having expectations. If we accept life as it really is, then we tend to not get too caught up in expectations.
